Our Mission
The mission of Maple Star is to assist young people to achieve social
integration and prepare them to live in a democratic society by serving as an alternative to institutional care and providing opportunities to live in family and community settings.
To achieve it's mission and outcome goals, Maple Star staff and family care providers hold two intermediate goals for serving youth placed with Maple Star
- To enhance the probability of a stable placement, and
- To enhance the probability of personal growth.
Maple Star's mission will be accomplished to the extent that Maple Star can assist young people in working towards the following six goals necessary for adult living:
- To be able to function in the world of work and support oneself;
- To actively participate in the community; this means participating in voluntary associations, recreational interest groups, religious organizations, or other community organizations, and includes contributing to the benefit of the overall community;
- To be respectful of the rights of others, appreciate difference, and avoid victimizing others through illegal behavior;
- To be able to live in family or other intimate relationships where one gives and takes emotional support;
- To be able to care for one's self in areas such as budgeting, maintaining a household, shopping, cooking, and laundry; and
- To accept responsibility for one's own behavior including taking steps to make amends for mistakes and omissions.
