Foster Parent Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How long will the licensing process take?
A. The total application process will generally take between 3-6 months. This depends on each individual family, as application materials must be submitted, references returned, and all hours of pre-service training completed to Maple Star before submitting your application to the State of Nevada. Please note that after your application is submitted to the State, it could take several weeks before your application is processed. This is completely normal, and requires your patience during the licensing process.
Q. Will I receive compensation for my work as a Maple Star foster parent?
A. Yes, we issue a competitive reimbursement. Contact the recruiter for more details.
Q. Will I be able to decide which child is placed in my home?
A. Yes, definitely. No child would be placed in your home without your full agreement. You will be provided with all information about the child to assist you in making this decision. You will also have the opportunity to meet the child before you make your decision for a placement in your home.
Q. Do I have to be married?
A. No.
Q. If I were to become a Maple Star foster care parent, what kind of support will be available to assist me in my work as a foster parent?
A. A Maple Star foster care coordinator is available to provide support and assistance to you. Maple Star also provides monthly support groups which all foster parents are expected to attend. These groups provide support, guidance, and information on ways to deal with children placed in your homes.
